Items available to build a drip irrigation system

We hope to show people the variety of fittings that can be used to make a drip irrigation system. The information gives the name of the item, the size and a description as well as comments.

You can draw a plan of your garden or walk around it and write on a piece of paper what items you want and how many you need.

You can then visit your Hardware Store or Plant Nursery and buy your drip irrigation equipment.

    Item: Polythene Drip Pipe
Size: 13mm by 300 metre rolls
Description: Rolls of black soft plastic pipe (300 metres)
Comments: When purchasing drip pipe there is usually a price reduction for ten or more rolls.

    Item: Nut and Tail
Size: a. 25mm BSP tap size to 13mm polythene drip pipe.
        b. 19mm BSP tap size to 13mm polythen drip pipe.
Description: Black plastic fitting which screws onto the tap and connected to the drip pipe.
Comments: Make sure there is a washer in the fitting so water doesn't leak out.

    Item: In-line Filter
Size: 13mm
Description: Black Plastic fitting with a plastic mesh screen inside.
Comments: The drip pipe pushes on each end of the filter and is located just below the tap. Make sure the arrow on the side of the fitting points away from the tap in the direction of the water flow. The filter unscrews so the mesh screen can be cleaned.

    Item: Tee Piece
Size: 13mm
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: This fitting has push-on bayonet ends for joing a new line into the existing drip pipe.

    Item: Elbow
Size: 13mm
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: This fitting has push-on bayonet ends for joining drip pipe around corners.

    Item: Four-way cross
Size: 13mm
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: This fitting has push-on bayonet ends for joining two new lines into an existing drip pipe.

    Item: Joiner

Comments: This fitting has push-on bayonet ends for joining drip pipe when it is broken or an extension is being added.

Item: End Sleeve or End Stop
Size: For 13mm drip pipe
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: An alternative to buying these fittings is to cut off pieces, 15mm wide, from a length of 25mm black polythene pipe. When the drip pipe end is bent over, the piece of 25mm pipe is slipped over the end.

    Item: Drip Punch
Size: To make holes to suit drippers
Description: Steel or black plastic hand tool
Comments: A drip punch is used for punching holes into drip pipe which the drippers are pushed into. A nail can be used to make the right size hole.

    Item: Drippers
Size: 4 litre per hour
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: We have used the Netafim Button Dripper for many years.

    Item: Ratchet Clip
Size: For 13mm drip pipe
Description: Black plastic fitting
Comments: If your drip pipe won't stay on your fittings due to high pressure or high temperatures, these clamps can be used to keep your system together.
